A new version of your app has just been pushed to Google Play, but there’s no clear confirmation that it’s live. Frustrating, right? Fortunately, there are easy ways to track your update — even if you're not an Android developer or don’t have access to Google Play Console.

The Manual Way: Checking Google Play

One way to check is by visiting your app’s page on Google Play. In the About this app section, you’ll find details about the current version and the last update date. However, app updates can take anywhere from a few hours to several days to go live. Manually checking the page multiple times a day isn’t ideal.

Here are more efficient methods:

If You Have Access to the Google Play Console: Enable Email Notifications

Google Play can send automatic email notifications when your app update goes live—but they’re not enabled by default. To turn them on:

  1. Go to Google Play Console Home page.

  2. Choose Settings in the menu on the left.

  3. Then click “Email notifications

  1. Enable App publishing updates emails.

Once enabled, you'll receive an email when the update is live.

If You Use the Google Play Console Mobile App: Enable Push Notifications

If you use Google Play Console app then you can also get notifications on your phone. Check how to enable this option in a couple of steps:

  1. Open Google Play Console app.

  2. Select the app you want to manage (if you have multiple apps).

  3. Go to Notifications.

  4. Enable App updates:

If You Don’t Have Access to the Google Play Console: Monitor Your App Updates

You don’t need to be a mobile developer to stay informed about new app versions. You can use app monitoring tools like My App Monitor to get real-time update alerts.

How to Set It Up in a Few Steps:

  1. Go to: https://app.myappmonitor.com/create-account/

  2. Register for free to create an account on My App Monitor.

  3. Go to the My Applications section in the menu.

  4. Click "Create".

  5. Add your app’s Google Play link to start tracking updates. Make sure that “Version Change tracker” is enabled (it should be enabled by default).

Example of an email notification regarding app version change:

That’s it! You’ll receive instant email notifications when a new version is released. And yes, you can also monitor your competitors’ app updates. 😉

Plus, you’ll also get alerts for critical issues like app removal from Google Play, security concerns, and compliance problems or negative reviews.
